The saying, ‘slowly, slowly, catchy monkey’ comes to mind as the best way to describe DI Chris Deakin’s method of policing. It must have been quite a refreshing change to CID after Roy Galloway and Frank Burnside to have a detective inspector who didn’t shout and slam the door off its hinges, nor display the drama of Sally Johnson. Chris didn’t need to yell or shout out his achievements, what Chris had to say was worth listening too and therefore was respected by all who worked in CID. Chris’ old school attitude and hard graft was recognised by his senior officers too, DCI Jack Meadows had a lot of time for the Detective Inspector. Unfortunately Chris did lack one essential skill whilst running Sun Hill CID and that was the ability to supervise rogue detective sergeant Don Beech. So when Don’s corruption was discovered, Chris was forceably transferred by CIB to another station.
